Intro
Not a trendy Insta picture, and not a fun or trendy way to spend a Saturday night. But this pretty much encapsulates my life at the moment. I am stacking up my artistic endeavours, or more precisely, stacking up the preparation. Apart from my daily journal or doodle, as I like to call it, my other projects are on hold, or waiting to be imminent, in the case of Inktober.
Having decided to enter the challenge, I knew I wanted to have a go at doing the physical drawings, rather than using the digital medium. However, this is a bit daunting, as I have never attempted this before. I alluded to trying this out in my last post, but now I’ve gone and got some Japanese ink pens. Maybe it’s a case of all the gear and no idea. And it’s very much going to be culture, shock the almost deadly undo facility of digital drawing, and procreate.
More Video – Distributed Video
I’ve been looking into alternative video platforms and although there are very few alternatives there are a couple that I am aware of. Obviously, YouTube is the be-moth of the video world and there’s no getting away from the fact that if one wants views then that’s the place you are going to get them. There is a trade-off though. You are at the whim of the platform. If you get access to potentially billions of views then you are camping on their land. My search for some protection is in Peertube https://joinpeertube.org and there is an instance for makertube.net. I found this while browsing Mastodon earlier today. I haven’t investigated fully as at the moment I am not creating video. I’m not sure if I have mentioned it before but I do have an account with Odysee. Also an open distributed platform. But when I am ready I am definitely going to give Makertube a try.
Inktober
With a week to go, I am starting to feel the pressure of deciding to try and do it with actual drawings. Although the idea of having a physical object at the end of it is very encouraging. I have also thought about putting some words to it and turning it into a bit of a book. I also think that making some other artworks from it might be fun, but I am thinking about this. I don’t want to rush ahead before I have actually started something. The theme has been decided and I am going to work on it some in the next week, but I have the outline in my head. I do enjoy the thought process of what the story will be. There are some words that don’t naturally fit but by weaving some ideas around them I can make them fit into the narrative. Let the ink flow next week.

Wrap Up

It’s been a bit of a short one this week as I am in the middle of moving a family member, which is taking up not only my physical time but also my mental space. But I wanted to keep the ball rolling down the hill. It’s hard writing about stuff that hasn’t happened yet and keeping the motivation going. But like a lot of things in life, things don’t always go smoothly. And this is definitely one of those times.
Next week, I will probably be in the middle of a nail-biting, hair-tearing, artistic breakdown. Or calmness and serenity will have descended over the land. But we will see.
Until next time…
