“How many times can one start again?”. Somehow I have Bob Dylan droning on in my head!
… And no this is not an April Fool joke post!! :)
I have been dabbling around in many different worlds and not really focusing on any of them. So in this year I am going to narrow down all these distractions on my time and concentrate on this one project that I call ArtByCutting. I know it might seem a bit pretentious but it fits quite well with the view I have of it, i.e. ArtByCutting is all A,B,C and not about being experienced at anything.
In restarting my blog I have gone down the route of switching from WordPress(WP) to Hugo. Now I am no coder and am very much stumbling around in the dark when it come to HTML and CSS. But I never really took to WP and it’s templates. I also found all the database stuff a bit of a headache. Whilst noddling around a few weeks ago I came across the wonders of Hugo and was immediately hooked! The simplicity seemed intoxicating.
So what you see here is my first attempt at getting my idea from computer to the internet. Yes it’s very basic, but my hope is that over the next few months? My knowledge and experience will grow. Enough to tame it to the site I want it to be. I am wrestling with getting Hugo set up how I want it and learning all about the theme system. I seems to be less obvious as how it all works together, but then that is just my lack of knowledge and bumbling ways! Given that it uses Markdown I have another thing to add to the list. But I do find that a lot easier to do than any other form of coding. Add to all this I had to go back a few decades a remind myself about FTP in order to be able to get my hand crafted artisanally produced pages up to my hosting company. All of this is not really the world of creating art. Maybe others would disagree. But I have always enjoyed fusing tech and art.
As the website is the central hub to all thinks ABC I am going to start separating it off into sections. Places that you may or may not be interested in. In terms of art, I am contemplating putting a weekly panel of my doodles up so that the many of you not interested in being bombarded daily with my efforts can find the abridged version easily.
I am excited about this new chapter and to see where it will lead. As the season turns to proper spring and the temps start warming up, I too feel like things are starting to flourish. It feels a bit like setting out on a long journey. Not knowing what’s going to happen, or what one needs to take with you. But the joy of find out new things and experiences outweigh the apprehension.
In the next exciting episode, I will hopefully have worked out how to add imagery. For now though I am just excited to have go this off the launch pad!
Till next time
